Vokey Wedges: The Vokey Design

Vokey Wedges, coveted by the signature Bob Vokey design, have been the most popular and frequently talked about wedges in the golf world for many years. With top name PGA and LIV Golf players like Jordan Speith, Max Homa, Wyndham Clark, and Cam Smith utilizing the SM10 wedges this year, Vokey has plenty of visibility. In this blog we will take a look at the history, design, and craftsmanship of Vokey Wedges. We think you are going to like this one.

Mr. Vokey

Bob Vokey, born in Canada in 1939, has been immersed in golf since he was helping assist his father tinker with golf equipment as a young boy. Fast forward 40 years, Bob opened up his own customer golf shop in San Diego, CA and later moved to Vista, CA. Without getting into too much detail, Bob rapidly made a name for himself in the golf industry through his attention to detail, craftsmanship, and eagerness to learn. Bob made stops at TaylorMade and Founders Club before landing at Titleist in the year 1996.

Following the partnership of Vokey and Titleist in 1996, Titleist decided that the organization wanted to progress into high-class wedges and had Bob head the project. It is safe to say that they have never looked back, as Vokey Wedges account for approximately 40% of all wedges played on tour and are certainly the tour favorite. Since 2004, Bob Vokey has been crafting premiere wedges for all players and his built the reputation of one of the most skilled club makers that the game has ever seen.

 SM10 Wedges

Now getting into the actual product, Vokey Wedges launched the SM10 in 2024. The brands lowest flighted, best feeling, and highest spinning wedges to date. It is important to note that one of the most impressive characteristics of Vokey Wedges is the creativity and adaptivity that the clubs have. When deciding on which wedges a player wants to put in the bag, there are many options in terms of loft and bounce. An aspect that has been developed from years and years of Bob Vokey on the range with players of all levels, the customization of the wedge is super impressive.

With a total of six different grinds, including the newly introduced “T-Grind”, the SM10 wedges play as the most versatile wedges of all time. However, all of these types of grinds to not take away from the fact that the SM10 models provide players with a new center of gravity in the clubface, enhancing flight and feel. Lastly, and arguably the most important part of wedge play is spin. Every player, from amateur to tour pro, wants the ability to rip back wedges from the fairway or have the golf ball checkup around the green or bunkers.

With 100% inspection for quality and a new localized heat treatment is applied to the Vokey Wedge grooves to double durability. From flight, to feel, to spin, it is not hard to agree that there is some experience behind Bob Vokeys wedges and their progression over the years. It’s no surprise that the clubs are so sought after and loved amongst players.

Our Opinion

From the information provided throughout this blog, we are extremely high on Vokey Wedges. Although the clubs may come with an expensive price tag in terms of wedges, you are playing a premier golf club. The experience and years behind the design speak for itself, but one does not really feel the Vokey difference until playing the clubs yourself. We feel very confident in saying that there is not a better wedge in the game, and we highly recommend GreenSeeker players check out the SM10 models.
