Pebble Beach: A Golfer’s Paradise
It is undeniable that Pebble Beach is just about every golfer’s paradise on earth. From stunning views to unbelievable quality of play, it just does not get any better than Pebble. Located in between Del Monte and Carmel, the overall scenery of not just the golf course, but the resort itself is second to none. In this blog we will break down the history of the course, the 18 holes at Pebble, and the amenities included. So, buckle up and enjoy as we dive into one of the most popular golf courses to ever exist.
The History of Pebble Beach
Covered with years and years of history dating all the way back to the early 1900s, Pebble Beach has embarked on a remarkable journey. Beginning as a plot of land in an attractive real estate market, Jack Neville and Douglas Grant created a one-of-a-kind golf course. After years and years of changes, historic tournaments, and golf’s legends creating memories that would last lifetimes, Pebble Beach was born in legendary status. Playing host to six U.S. Open Championships, golf’s greats like Tiger Woods, Arnold Palmer, and Jack Nicklaus continuously left their mark on this special track.
To think that all of these incredible moments in golf’s history, such as Johnny Miller’s impeccable track record at Pebble, would have never happened without the design of a couple of amateur golfers. Referring back to Pebble’s earliest states, Neville and Grant were well established amateur players before taking to golf architecture. Turns out these two not only designed one of the most popular golf courses to ever exist, but likely had their hands on The Hay and Spanish Bay.
The Course
When covering a golf course like Pebble Beach, it is almost impossible not to get immersed in the history. However, who wouldn’t want to dive into the actual golf course? When looking at Pebbles 18-holes, it is obvious that there are very few places on planet earth in better shape. Prestine fairways, well-kept rough, phenomenal bunkers, and exquisite greens fortify the fact that Pebble is the pound for pound number one public course in America. However, one thing that players may miss when looking forward to playing Pebble Beach is the weather. Being and oceanside golf course brings into play extreme wind conditions and therefore makes Pebble Beach a real challenge.
With five tee options, the furthest playing 6,800 yards, Pebble offers players a very unique golf experience that is unrepeatable. With almost every single hole playing along the oceanside, tee shots and approach shots all depend on the wind. It is not uncommon for players to be giving up or to be getting 20-25 yards due to wind. The iconic 7th hole is a perfect example, where players are seen hitting wedges in on a normal day and 7-irons on another. Conditions at Pebble Beach all come down to the wind and if players do venture out on a windy day, they better have their A-game.
Coming down the stretch, hole 18 is known as “the best finishing hole in golf” and it is hard to disagree. With an incredible view of the Pacific Ocean, players truly feel like they have hit the pinnacle of golfer’s paradise. Post round players have the options to fantastic amenities including and the second-to-none clubhouse, spa, and surrounding areas around Carmel. Not to mention, Pebble is just one of 5 golf courses in the area, and it is not uncommon to see players wind up at The Hay (short course).
